Dr. J. V. A. Humphreys is a highly qualified physician and missionary. He completed postgraduate medical modules (MSc Level) in Allergy (University of Southampton, School of Medicine) and has completed a Short Course in Epidemiology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London). Dr. Humphreys has a keen interest in research. He is also a member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and a Fellow of Inter-American College of Physicians and Surgeons. His private practice-Rophi Regional Medical Center Inc. is located at Belmont Medical and Surgical Complex. It is a distinguished medical facility where numerous treatment and diagnostic modalities are offered. Rophi offers inpatient and outpatient services including a home nursing care service.
Dr. Humphreys is presently in his penultimate year of postgraduate training with the University of Edinburgh, College of Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh joint Internal Medicine program. In 2013, he received the Royal College's scholarship.
In 2013, the University of Edinburgh was ranked 17th worldwide, 6th in Europe, 5th in the United Kingdom, and 1st in Scotland. The Royal College serves as the credentialing authority for specialist training and whose standard are regarded internationally as the benchmark of clinical excellence.
In 2010, Dr. Humphreys was selected from an international, multidisciplinary and competitive pool of applicants as one of the 24 members of the Young Professionals Commission (YPC), an Advisory Board to the Global Commission on Education of the Health Professionals for the 21st Century. The Global Commission is an independent initiative to advance health by recommending educational reforms and new organizational models to better equip the professional workforce to lead the health advances of this century. YPC is a highly select group of health professional students & early career professionals from around the world & advisory group of the Global Commission on Education of the Health Professionals for the 21st Century. The Global Commission completed a two-day conference at the renowned Harvard Medical School, Boston Massachusetts, where a report on their recommendations on health reform was launched. This meeting was reportedly attended by some of the top medical minds across the globe. The report was published in the Lancet Journal, one of the world's oldest (est. 1823) and most prestigious general medical journals. Dr. Humphreys expressed his excitement on receiving his complimentary copy of the Commission Report and the Lancet publication. The Global Commission's Report somewhat follows up on the Flexner Report written by professional educator Abraham Flexner which was later published in 1910. The Global Commission's Report was timed to be published on the 100th anniversary of the Flexner Report. Many aspects of modern-day medical practice stemmed from the recommendations of the Flexner report.
He was a part of the medical team led by Surgeon and Urologist Dr. Dwayne Thwaites, that performed the first Laser Transurethral Resection of the Prostate in the OECS at Belmont Medical & Surgical Center (May 6, 2011).
He is the publisher and producer of the free periodic magazine Health Watch.
Dr. Humphreys believes in giving back to the society. In keeping with this philosophy, Dr. Humphreys has engaged in some charity works and donations to the needy. These include both government and private facilities and individual donations. He is also co-founder and Executive Director of St. Sampson the Hospitable Mission, a registered non-profit company in Antigua and Barbuda and the USA.
On July 28th 2010, Dr. Humphreys received the Distinguished Service Award from Church of God World Missions for "dedicated service to the people of Antigua in the field of Medicine and with grateful acknowledgment of his professional medical attention given to the people of Haiti in the aftermath of the January 2010, devastating earthquake". This was presented at the 73rd Biennial International General Assembly of the Church of God held at the Orange County Convention Center July 27th-30th 2010, in Orlando, Florida" by the then Caribbean Field Director Bishop Fedley A. Beason, J.P, Ph.D.
Asked how he does all that he does, his simple and modest reply is, I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me. I see myself only as a vessel for HIS divine purpose. To God be the glory!"
The young doctor attributed his success first of all to Almighty to God. His motivation he said is family; his wife Gaylon, his youngest siblings, Demanté and Devanté, and daughter Tiliyah, coupled with an incalculable passion for helping others.
